Luke wraps up second after dramatic iRacing Trophy finale

Rising star Luke Browning was left to settle for second in the British F4 iRacing Trophy after a dramatic season finale at Brands Hatch.

Luke went into the final event battling Fortec team-mate Chris Lulham for the crown, with a 14 point deficit to his rival and the pair the only two drivers still in contention for honours.

A storming performance in qualifying saw Luke take a seventh successive pole position and he was able to control the opening race from the front despite an early Safety Car period to secure victory.

With Lulham unable to score after an incident on track, Luke suddenly held an eleven point lead going into the final race of the season, with the reverse grid providing an additional challenge.

Starting at the back, Luke knew that a podium finish would secure the title regardless of what Lulham was able to manage from fifth on the grid, and he quickly battled his way into the top six.

As Lulham moved forwards towards the front, Luke followed suit but slight contact with Christian Mansell and then a further touch from Zak O’Sullivan at Stirlings resulted in damage that would force Luke into the pits.

With Lulham taking the race win, Luke would be forced to settle for second place as he was unable to score, with the pair set to renew battle for real when the delayed British F4 season get underway at Donington Park in early August.
