Luke Browning will return to the cockpit of the FW48 for the next two rounds of the Formula 1 season, taking part in Free Practice 1 at the Mexico City and São Paulo Grands Prix with Atlassian Williams F1 Team.
The Williams Reserve Driver will drive Alex Albon’s car in Mexico before stepping into Carlos Sainz’s FW48 in Brazil, completing the team’s final two mandated rookie FP1 sessions of 2026.
Back Behind the Wheel
The upcoming sessions mark Luke’s first time driving the FW48 since Williams introduced its lightweight chassis upgrade in Baku. The opportunity will allow him to experience the updated package and build his understanding of the car, including how it performs on track. The data and feedback gathered during both sessions will also contribute to the team’s development work.
Four FP1 Sessions Complete
By the end of the São Paulo Grand Prix weekend, Luke will have completed all four of Williams’ mandated rookie FP1 sessions this season, underlining the team’s trust in him and his continued development as a driver.
Alongside his reserve duties, Luke has continued to support the team through simulator work and data analysis while competing for Kondo Racing in Super Formula, Japan’s premier single-seater championship.
Speaking ahead of the sessions, Luke said:
“I’m happy to be back in the FW48 and grateful to be trusted by Atlassian Williams F1 Team with all four of the team’s rookie FP1 sessions this year. It’s a great opportunity to get more laps in the car, while building my understanding of the new package and bringing useful data and feedback back to Grove.
“Each session teaches you something new, and I will take every bit of learning I can from this to help keep pushing my development and the team forward.”
His FP1 outings will come before Luke returns for the Super Formula season finale on the 20-22 November at Suzuka.
