Luke Browning is one of motorsport’s up-and-coming talents, having risen through the ranks to reach the FIA Formula 2 championship
The 23-year-old began his racing career in karting, before taking part in the 2016 Junior Saloon Car Championship — placing ninth and being named the Henry Surtees Teen Racer of the Year.
He competed in the competition again the following season, as well as the Ginetta Junior Championship with Richardson Racing.
And it was in the Cheshire native’s second campaign with the team that he really hit his stride, coming third in the 2018 standings after registering eight race wins and 10 podium finishes.
Progression to Formula 4 was perhaps inevitable, though Luke stayed with Richardson Racing for his first season at that level.
He finished sixth in 2019, but a switch to Fortec Motorsport helped him hit new heights — winning his first-ever championship in 2020.
That success prompted a move to mainland Europe, as Luke competed in a whole host of competitions in 2021, with highlights including a third-place finish in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship and victory at the Drexler Automotive Formula 4 Cup.
Winning was becoming a habit and that continued into 2022, when the Kingsley-born driver triumphed in the GB3 Championship after joining Hitech Grand Prix.He also won the Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Award that year — a prize previously claimed by the likes of David Coulthard, Jenson Button, George Russell and Lando Norris.
The following campaign was a significant one for Luke, as it marks the point when he became a member of the Williams Racing Driver Academy.
“A huge thank you to everyone at Williams Racing for the opportunity to shoot for the stars,” he said after signing.
“To be welcomed into the family is a dream come true, the heritage of this team is phenomenal.
“I can’t wait to see where we can go, our journey starts here.”
That journey started gathering pace, as Luke won the prestigious Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix and took part in the FIA Formula 3 Championship for the first time in 2023 — linking up with Hitech Pulse-Eight (now Hitech TGR).
He did so again in 2024 and placed a commendable third after winning races in Bahrain and Austria, as well as claiming a podium finish in Monaco.
Another significant moment arrived in the latter stages of that year, as the rising star was elevated to Formula 2 for the season’s final three rounds.
After acclimatising during those few weeks, Luke is now in the midst of his maiden full campaign in F2.
And he’s made a flying start with Hitech TGR — claiming a number of podium finishes and currently sitting in the upper echelons of the Drivers’ Standings.
An exciting few months lie ahead, then, as Luke looks to continue his rapid ascent in the world of motorsport.
Having already driven Williams Racing’s FW46 on two occasions before taking this year’s car for a spin during FP1 in Bahrain, there’s sure to be plenty more excitement on the horizon for the talented youngster.
