Luke will have a new team-mate in 2026, following the news that Japanese driver Ukyo Sasahara is set to represent Kondo Racing during the upcoming Super Formula season.
The Numata-born racer has plenty of experience in the competition, having previously represented Team Mugen, Docomo Team Dandelion Racing and Vantelin Team TOM’S across five full or partial campaigns.
He’s finished on the podium on three occasions, too, including a pair of race victories with Team Mugen in 2022 — triumphing at the Fuji Speedway and in Suzuka.
That year saw Sasahara place sixth in the Drivers’ Championship, as the Asaka-based outfit topped the Teams’ Standings.
And the 29-year-old has won a whole host of other honours since making the step up from karting in 2013.
Early highlights include top-three finishes in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup, F4 Japanese Championship and the Japanese Formula 3 Championship, before 2019 brought a trio of victories in the F3 Asian Championship, FIA Motorsport Games GT Cup and Porsche Carrera Cup.
He has been successful in Super GT in more recent years, too, placing fifth and sixth in 2024 and 2025, respectively, with TGR Team Deloitte TOM'S.
Those seasons featured three race wins at the Suzuka Circuit, Sportsland Sugo and Sepang International Circuit, as well as a further third-place finish at the Fuji Speedway last term.
Luke will certainly be looking to learn from his experienced new team-mate, when the 2026 Super Formula campaign gets underway from 4th April at Mobility Resort Motegi.
