We’re well and truly into the Formula 2 season’s final furlong — and it’s crunch time for Luke as he heads to Qatar.
Our Hitech TGR racer will be fully aware that he needs to put in two strong performances during the campaign’s penultimate round, in order to remain in the F2 title fight.
But a solid points haul at the Lusail International Circuit has the potential to set up a tantalising finale in Abu Dhabi, when the curtain comes down on the 2025 season in early December.

The state of play

Luke will be looking to close a 27-point gap on Drivers’ Standings leader Leonardo Fornaroli over the next two rounds.
He’ll also need to outperform second-place Jak Crawford, who is currently eight points ahead of the 23-year-old.
However, with a total of 39 points available across each remaining race weekend, it is eminently possible for Luke to catch both the aforementioned drivers with high-scoring displays in Lusail and Yas Island.
The Cheshire native may need to keep an eye out for fourth-place Richard Verschoor, too, who is only ten points off his current tally of 161.

Previous visits to Lusail

Luke has previous experience at the Lusail International Circuit, which he’ll hope to take advantage of during Round 13.
The Williams Racing Driver Academy member drove in Qatar after stepping up to Formula 2 at the tail end of last season, in just his second race weekend at this level.
He wasn’t able to put any points on the board on that occasion, but came relatively close to doing so in the Sprint — placing P11, prior to a P15 finish in Sunday’s Feature Race.
But after a season that has yielded nine podium finishes to date, Luke can certainly be confident on improving upon those results this time around.

Track talk

The Lusail International Circuit will present plenty of challenges for Luke and his fellow F2 racers, thanks to its combination of flat-out straights and a wide variety of technical turns.
Stretching across 5.419 km (3.367 miles) and containing 16 corners, a lap begins with a long straight and a run of fast turns, leading into Sector 2’s lower speed corners — designed to test drivers’ precision to the maximum.
Things speed up again when the Dallara F2 2024 cars begin to weave around Sector 3, before the track’s main straight brings each lap to a close.

Race times

Free Practice is scheduled to get underway at 2.05pm AST on Friday, prior to Qualifying at 7.10pm.
Then it’s another evening start for Saturday’s Sprint — 7.20pm to be precise — before the Feature Race at 3pm AST on Sunday.
