Luke’s first full Formula 2 season was packed full of memorable performances, as our Hitech TGR racer registered a fourth-place finish in the 2025 Drivers’ Standings.
That placing doesn’t tell the full story, however, with Luke remaining in title contention until the penultimate round at Qatar’s Lusail International Circuit.
And though the 23-year-old ultimately missed out on top spot to Leonardo Fornaroli, he can look back on a campaign that delivered an impressive 162 points across nine race weekends.
The numbers speak for themselves in that regard, as Luke recorded a Feature Race win and eight further podium finishes throughout the year.
Things started particularly strongly, with a P3 finish in the season-opening Sprint at the Albert Park Circuit, before torrential rain saw the cancellation of Sunday’s main event in Melbourne.
That result kicked off a run of top-ten finishes — ten in a row, to be precise — including Luke’s first P2 during Round 2’s Feature Race in Bahrain, when he also recorded the day’s fastest lap.
More success was to come when the action moved to Europe in mid-May, as back-to-back podium placings were secured in Imola — first a P3 (and another fastest lap) in the Sprint, then a second P2 of 2025 in the Feature Race.
Luke was getting into his stride by this stage of the season and his hot streak continued into Round 5 in Monaco, with P3 and P4 finishes, respectively, while visiting the principality.
Trips to Barcelona and Spielberg in June didn’t prove quite as productive but still yielded 13 points, before the Cheshire native returned to the podium in style at Silverstone.
That P3 in the Feature Race was notable for Luke’s eye-catching climb from 12th spot in wet and windy conditions — and could have been even more productive, had it not been for a late Safety Car.
He won plenty of plaudits for that performance, too, with his various overtakes at the home of British motorsport earning him the Dallara Overtake of the Year Award earlier this month.
Remarkably, Luke repeated the feat in Belgium during the following round, as he rose from a Qualifying position of P12 to third-place in the Feature Race in Spa-Francorchamps.
But after more points at the Hungaroring in Round 10, the highlight of Luke’s campaign arrived in Monza during early September.
It was there that he qualified in pole position, before maximising his advantage to secure a first-ever triumph at Formula 2 level.
“It feels like a big one, that,” said Luke, as he reacted to his victory at the Temple of Speed.
“It's almost redemption for last year. We came here in Formula 3 six points off the championship lead and lost it with contact in the final race, so to come here, put it on pole, and then win it the following year — it feels like a hurdle cleared, even if it's just mental.
“Hitech did a fantastic job today. I love this place — the amount of fans out there, this place really is special.
“I think there's a stat that I've never lost a race from pole. In these pressure situations, I feel I’ve got that final step to deliver when it’s there — but that’s only possible with a team like Hitech getting the best out of me.”
There was still time for one more podium in 2025 as Luke came second in the Sprint at the Baku City Circuit, prior to a long pause before the season’s final two rounds.
And though he ultimately wasn’t able to sustain a title charge in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, he can still look back on a commendable campaign that included more than its fair share of highs across the last year.
