The Formula 2 season is hotting up after eight rounds of action — and Luke remains within touching distance of top spot, after a series of impressive performances.
As we pass the campaign’s halfway point, the 23-year-old sits in fifth with 98 points to his name
Luke’s total is just 24 behind current leader Richard Verschoor, representing a gap that is eminently closable with six rounds remaining.
It is perhaps unsurprising that the Cheshire native is flying high in the standings, despite this being his first full season at F2 level.
After all, he has registered five podium finishes to date, while only placing outside the top 10 in one of his races.
The first test of 2025 came at Melbourne’s Albert Park Circuit, back in March. Luke performed admirably during the Sprint race on that occasion — finishing P3 in what was to be the only action in Australia, after the feature race was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
There were no such issues in Round 2, however, as the Hitech TGR driver made up for an average Sprint race showing (10th) by coming second at the main event in Sakhir.
That result was even more impressive when you consider that he took part in FP1 for Atlassian Williams Racing that weekend, before having to transition back to an F2 car.
“The adaptation was tough, hopping out of an F1 car straight into F2 is not easy… I think my main goal was just to hit every apex, and we did that,” Luke confirmed, following his eye-catching podium finish.
Eight more points were then accrued in Saudi Arabia from a P6 placing in the feature race, prior to a highly successful visit to Imola in Round 4.
That trip to Italy saw Luke claim back-to-back top three finishes, after placing P3 in the Sprint before going one better the following day by coming second.
And more success was to come in Monaco, as the Williams Driver Academy member climbed to the top of the Drivers’ Standings — thanks to another podium finish in the Sprint (P3) and a P4 that yielded a further six points.
Things didn’t go quite as smoothly at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya or Red Bull Ring, but Luke nonetheless bounced back in spectacular style at his home round.
Having qualified 12th, in a wet and wild feature race, Luke was comfortably the fastest driver on track – gaining nine positions on the road to secure a P3 finish at Silverstone. In truth, had it not been for late Safety Car interventions, it could have been even more for the Hitech driver.
That said, it's given him a great springboard heading into the Round 9 at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps.
