After an eventful Super Formula Test in Suzuka last month, Luke is set for a switch in roles from this weekend.
Our British racer has dual responsibilities in 2026, as he prepares to combine an upcoming campaign with Kondo Racing and his position as Atlassian Williams F1 Team’s Reserve Driver.
And the latter of those positions takes centre-stage for the next few weeks, until the Super Formula season gets started in early April.
That’s because the F1 season begins on Friday, of course, with the Australian Grand Prix running from 6th-8th March.
The 24-year-old’s pre-race responsibilities have already begun, with a Williams Fan Zone Q&A earlier today — and a further appearance at Culture Kings Melbourne on Friday at 7pm AEDT.
He’ll then be linking up with the team across the weekend, ready to step in if either of Alex Albon or Carlos Sainz are unable to compete at the Albert Park Circuit.
However, even if that scenario doesn’t occur, Luke will still attend briefings and spend time on the simulator throughout 2026 — building up his motorsport knowledge and experience in the process.
There’s also the TPC (testing of previous cars) programme, that will allow him to get to grips with Formula 1 machinery by racking up the miles in vehicles from previous years.
Focusing more specifically on race weekends, though, Luke is due to spend the Australian GP with Williams, as well as the Chinese GP from 13th-15th March.
Then it’s Round 3 in Suzuka from 27th-29th March, before the Cheshire native remains in Japan for the start of the Super Formula season.
The first two races of that competition are scheduled for 4th-5th April at Mobility Resort Motegi in Tochigi Prefecture.
